More adventures in Holland

I first off wanted to let you all know, I've added a Facebook fan page.  Dividing Vintage Moments   I'll do a formal announcement and giveaway in September.    I also never did celebrate my one year blog anniversary, so I think I'll combine it all and have a super fabulous giveaway!

After a visit to Madame's,  we were walking by this card shop and of course had to pop in.   It was an amazing place.  One of those shops where you have to be there and their stock is not on the internet.   They had many cards and photographs from all different time periods but we seemed to fit right in when we entered and were happily amused looking through all the boxes.  It was amazing the amount of inventory the owner had.  He was a very nice man and was very happy to show us what he had.  When he saw how we were dressed, he pulled out a box of fashion images and both Anthea and myself found some photographs from this.  I forgot to ask him what his oldest piece was, I'm sure this would have been interesting to see.

Anthea, thinking "Hmm, which one shall I choose?"

Here is one of the images I picked up:

I have some very fabulous fashion cards from this shop that I will post next as I think they deserve a post all their own.  I'll also share a picture of Anthea's hat she made for me.

After we left the shop, we went over to a nice cafe for lunch.  Right next to the cafe, was a very interesting vintage movie theater, we didn't go all the way inside.  On reflection, it would have been interesting to walk further in but we did take a couple of pictures next to the old movie camera and seats in the lobby.  From what I understand, they play old movies there.  Wouldn't this be a fun place to visit and see a movie?

Here we are at lunch....

Other various images from my trip:

One day we paid a visit to a sand sculpture exhibit...

Here are museum pictures from a gingerbread museum.  It was a bit dark in some of the rooms so I didn't get good pictures of the molds.  But, the children were happy and got to make some gingerbread cookies.

These are images from another museum where you could take a look into life as it was in Holland:

A little peak into the life of a vintage household:

I thought this was very interesting, you can see how they made their "linen" cloth for their clothes.  I can't imagine having to keep track of row stitching on this!

Sorry about the refections on the glass, difficult to photograph.

A little bit of a vintage "modern" twist in the museum, love all these bags.  1940s.

Part II, Madame De Pompadour

One of the highlights of my trip was a planned visit to Madame De Pompadour and visiting with Anthea for the day.   This was a great little adventure.  The town of Utrecht is so lovely.  I didn't even get to touch the surface.  It certainly will deserve another visit.  I only wished I would have had more time.  I didn't get a change to make it to the vintage clothing stores.   I've been wanting to have my hair prepared in more of a vintage style without it being too bridal, which can happen if you walk into a local hair salon here.   So, Madame De Pompadour's is the perfect place to visit.  I wish there was one here in NYC.   Her prices are also so very reasonable!  I recommend liking her FB page and following her journey as she creates lovely vintage style hair.  I met up with fellow vintage blogger  Anthea . We have a lot of the same tastes in vintage style!   We both had our hair made up by the very talented Madame.  Gosh, I wish I could do my hair like this everyday!  She is awesome!  Anthea was looking for a 30s style and I was looking for a 40s style.
How cool is this shop?  I bet you all wish it was up at the top of your street.

Here is a tour around her salon...

Isn't this rain bonnet display just so cute?  I forgot to buy one.

Here I am....going for the vintage style....

Anthea also has some photographs from our visit together here.

Anthea made this lovely dress based upon a vintage design.  A lovely dress and print!  She is quite a talented seamstress.  She is also taking a pattern making class.  I wish I could do something like this close by where I live but I'm afraid NYC would just be too far.

This hat was a total lint collector and I really needed a lint brush.  Thank you to Anthea for snapping the photographs of me.

I borrowed Anthea's bag as a prop:)

The street of Madam De Pompadour's.

Another view outside Madam De Pompador's...

I realized after that I didn't get any pictures with the Madame herself so I swiped this one from her FB page.   She is so wonderful and I recommend a visit to her shop if you find yourself in Utricht.

Walking about on our way to lunch:

The streets were so nice to walk through, look at the nice brick roads.

Next post, I will share our trip to a vintage card shop and my finds (I need to scan them:), including a lovely hat from Anthea!
Also, maybe I can squeeze in other images of my Holland vacation.

Holland Part I

I'm finally back after great vacation to to Holland.  We spent two weeks in Holland spending time with family and doing a lot of kid friendly activities.  My children did not want to come back.
We did so many interesting things like visiting a shoe and cheese making business, gingerbread baking,  beach, walks in the forest, museums, markets, sand sculptures, and I was able to meet up with Anthea in Utricht at Madame De Pompadour!    More on this in the next post.
We actually didn't get a chance to make it into Amsterdam on our holiday maybe next time.

Here are a few pictures from the beginning of our trip:

Here I am with a nice cup of coffee as we walked around in a close by forest.

Outfit details:

Blouse bought on ebay, very good quality $32
Jeans - Freddies
Pearl necklace
White Bakelite Bracelet Brighter Bakelite.

On a side note, I was quite sad when I brought one of my favorite necklaces to Holland and I was getting ready to show my MIL and the string broke sending all the beads scrambling.  This is certainly a necklace I will have to restring.
